Post TJ: HID headlight install
Rather than waste away the evening watching a movie or surfing the interwebz, I wrenched on the Jeep for a while:

Tip #1: If you are replacing the housings at the same time as installing the kit, install the HID bulb in to the housing before you mount the housing in the headlight bucket. (it's easier doing it before rather than after installing the housing in the Jeep)

Here's the kit:

I already have IPF housings, so I unplugged the harness, then removed the bulb. Bulb is still installed in this photo.

This looked like a good place to place the relay once I determined the wire routing and how much length of wire to go to the battery.

Initially I had the fuse here, but later I re-routed the wire under the fuse block.

Route the red wire here: (it's the wire on the left)

Route the rest of the wires towards the headlight:

Also, the ground wire can be hooked up to the grounding point next to the headlight - there's already other ground wires here. Same on the driver's side.

Wire for drivers side passes across the top of the grill:

Ziptied in place, loosely for now:

Mounted the passenger side ballast with zipties:

I bent the tab down at an angle, and put foam tape on the bracket.

One of my housings has a problem where every time I diddle with the bulbs, the metal bulb holder comes out when I peel off the weather boot. :robot:

I eventually ended up removing the driver's side housing to fix the bulb mount. Seems like it will be OK for a while. I spent a good 15 minutes messing with it.

This shows the wiring mostly all zip tied in place on the passenger side.

This is probably not the prettiest spot for the driver's side ballast, but it was the only place I found room for it.

Stuck some foam tape to the ballast and zip tied it to the overflow bottle.

I couldn't put it on the grill support rod because I have a crap load of other stuff mounted to it on this side. (OBA junk)
