Post Re: Taurus Fan swap?
I ran one for a few years in my Jeep (w/ a 2.5L). I did notice a slight power increase. However I got rid of it a while ago because I considered it something that could fail on me, and also I didn't like the extra electrical drain when winching.

However, IMO the taurus fan is a great option if you do want to go with an elec. fan, it is relatively inexpensive and a high quality fan.

I had mine wired up to a 3 position switch: On manually, Off, On automatically via a thermostatic switch. With my 4 cyl., I only ran the low speed (the fans are a 2 speed) because it provided plenty of cooling for me and was less of an amperage draw. From what I read back when I was researching the swap, the only downside to the Taurus fan was its high electrical draw compared to aftermarket fans. Even with the fan on the low speed, when it kicked on the idle on the Jeep engine dropped slightly with the load (diminishing the HP advantage?). With the fan plugged in on high, the Jeep engine really kicked down for a second when the thing turned on.

That is the issue. All the write ups I have found are hack crap jobs. I will eventually do an electric fan cause of water crossing but not a fan of the hack wiring I have seen on this.

Well the Fan is not my issue. I put another clutch in it and it turned out my lower hose had a hole in it. Drove back out of the mountains and swapped in all new hoses in the shucks parking lot. Heading back up to the mountains to try and catch back up with people it over heated again.

So taking out the Radiator now for a good cleaning and swapping out the thermostat. I might go ahead and do a water pump too and cover ALL COOLANT related items.

If it is still overheating I am putting in a Hemi :banghead:

Edit: Got the rad out and it was packed with mud on the bottom half. think that could be why.

^^^ I'm kinda hoping your issue doesn't get fixed

Funny this thread popped up because I've been looking into the Taurus fan swap for a few weeks now and was actually about to pick up the phone to call the local salvage yards for one when I saw this thread.

I'm looking for a fan because my fan has actually seized up. The fan clutch is wasted and it roars over 2k. I've also noticed a HUGE difference in mileage. It get's about 25-50 miles less per tank now. Apparently cruising at 70mph with a fan going 3k rpm's causes a slight drag...

Go for the Hemi anyway, and a complete new cooling system from scratch, maybe an aluminum racing fan on an air conditioner clutch for a disconnect? Got to think outside the box Rotflmao

Well sorry guys..... no hemi this week. I just drove it up south hill in 6th lugging the motor down and it did not even get hot.

You should have seen how much mud washed off my radiator and AC condenser.

BTW go ahead and start the jokes about me staying out of puddles.

Why not while in the puddle ? Can you imagine that show ? Mud spraying up and foreward for you to run into, and then steam blowing out of the radiator ! :jump:
